KAIA is a five-member Filipino girl group formed by ShowBT Entertainment. The group made their official debut on April 8, 2022 with their first digital single "BLAH BLAH".
Name[]
The group's name was taken from the Cebuano word “kinaiya” which means one’s inner character and personality. In addition, the name also sounds "kaya" in Tagalog which means having the potential and fighting spirit towards achieving certain goals.[1]
Career[]
2021: Pre-debut, First single[]
On November 5, the group’s official SNS account was opened along with the disclosure of their name “KAIA” and a video of their logo movement on November 8.[2] On November 10, Charlotte was officially announced as the group’s first member[3][4][5] prior to her debut, she was a former member of the dance group MIX'IN with Rocher of YARA, the same day, after the group's first member was revealed, there were rumors that there were eight members of ShowBT Entertainment's new girl group, followed by Angela on November 12,[6] Sophia on November 15,[7] Alexa on November 17,[8] Charice on November 19, and Joanna on November 22.[9] The group's photo and their final lineup was revealed on November 26th.[10][11]
On November 30, ShowBT announced that the group will be release a pre-debut single and activity on December 10.[12][13][14] On December 10, their first single or pre-debut single “KAYA” was released on various music services or platforms along with their first Music video released at 6PM PHT.[15]
2022:Joanna's departure from the group, Debut, PPOPCON, "Dalawa"[]
On January 10, ShowBT announced that the group will continue as a five-member pre-debut group.
On March 24, the group announced on SNS that they would debut and revealed the date and name of their first debut single “BLAH BLAH”.[16]
On April 8, 2022 their debut single BLAH BLAH was released.
On April 9–10, the group performed at a fan convention and concert at 2022 PPOPCON as an open acts group and as the main performer of the concert.
On May 12, 2022, it was announced that the group would release a short docu-series starring group members and some ShowBT staff. This documentary series is titled “Road to Debut”.
On September 23, the group posted a photo on their Official SNS for their new single to be released on September 30.[17] The following day, the group revealed the title of the new single, it is titled "Dalawa" or in English is "Two".[18] On September 30, the group officially released the single.[19][20]
2023: Turn Up, "5678", "Dalawa (Remix)"[]
On January 21, the group released their first mini album titled "Turn Up" with "KAYA", "BLAH BLAH" and "Dalawa" as the album's b-side tracks.[21]
From March 5-8, the group posted numbers, such as 5, 6, 7 and 8 through their Official SNS. The group also announced that they will release a new single that will be released on March 17.[22] On March 12, the group revealed the title of the new single, which is "5678" which is set to be released on March 17.[23] On March 17, the single was officially released.[24][25][26]
On August 5, the group suddenly changed their profile picture on their Official SNS, some fans said, it was a hint that they will be releasing new music. The following day, the group announced that they would be releasing a new single, and revealed its teaser photo.[27][28] On August 7, the group announced that they will be releasing a remix version of "Dalawa", while its track art was also revealed.[29]
