G22 is a three-member girl group under Cornerstone Entertainment. Originally as four, the group made their official debut on February 25, 2022 with their first single BANG!.
Tagged as the "Female Alphas of Philippine Pop", G22 has released six original songs, and a rendition of Dionela's "Musika".
Naming[]
The name G22 comes from the Glock 22 gun, as well as G indicating them being a girl group, with 22 coming from the year they debuted (2022). [1]
Career[]
Pre-debut[]
On February 12, Cornerstone Entertainment revealed to have a new idol group under their company, on the same day, Cornerstone Entertainment revealed the name of the new idol girl group as G22 and they released a motion video of the group's logo.[2] On the next day, Cornerstone Entertainment revealed that the new idol group will consist of four members through posting a scheduler poster on the group’s SNS as well as the debut date.[3]
On February 14, Alfea was first introduced to the public as the first member of the group,[4] followed by Bianca on February 15.[5] Jaz was later revealed to be the third member on February 16,[6] while AJ was revealed to be the fourth and final member on February 17.[7]. On February 18, their group photo and video was revealed. On February 19, the title for their first single "BANG!" was revealed.
2022: Debut with BANG!, PPOPCON, first comeback single[]
The group made their first official debut on February 25, 2022 with their first single BANG!.
On April 9–10, 2022, G22 attended the 2022 PPOPCON as an opening act performer on the same day at the New Frontier Theater for the Day 1 convention and at the Smart Araneta Coliseum for the main event of the concert and the convention.
On May 2, 2022, it was announced that the group would comeback again on May 20, 2022, it was announced by releasing a logo motion video and a comeback teaser schedule on the group’s SNS. On May 13, they revealed their next and comeback single it was titled Babalik.[8]
2023: First year anniversary comeback, Bianca's departure, Musika[]
On February 13, 2023, the group announced that they would be making a comeback on February 24, for their first year anniversary. The announcement was announced through a post on their Official SNS.[9] On February 19, 2023, the group revealed the title of their first anniversary comeback single through a teaser video, it was titled "Boomerang".[10]
On September 15, Cornerstone Entertainment announced Bianca's departure from the group due to personal and family matters. They also announced that she will still be under their agency and the group will continue as a trio.[11] Their last happening as a quartet was the Kumu Diamond Gala, which was held on August 26, 2023, at the Shangri-La Fort in BGC, Taguig.
On September 25, the group released a cover of Dionela's single "Musika", ushering a new era for the group as a trio following Bianca's departure from the group.
In November, the group released a new single "Loka", as part of the soundtrack to the film "Shake, Rattle & Roll Extreme".
2024: First international guesting; One Sided Love[]
In March 2024, G22, along with BINI were invited to tape a guesting in China for a survival show hosted and produced by EXO member Lay titled "Show It All".
The two groups appeared in the fourth episode and fifth episode. G22 performed Babalik on the fourth episode, while they performed Boomerang on the fifth episode.
In April 2024, G22 released their comeback single, titled "One Sided Love". The following month, they released a cover of J-Nine's "I Hate Boys".
In June 2024, G22 was chosen as one of the two endorsers of Acer Philippines, along with SB19. The group later released a new single for the company, titled "Limitless". They performed at the Acer Day on August 4 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, which featured Sandara Park.
